Social and cultural changes such as urbanisation and increased mobility have increased HIV risk for women [ 5562 ]. A more inclusive, contextually sensitive research agenda, addressing gender-related vulnerability is required.

There is clearly evidence that this research needs to be conducted. However, much valuable, nuanced and important evidence for decision making is available in the grey literature.

Opportunities exist for researchers, in partnership with communities, service providers and policy makers to move from descriptive to action-oriented research in order to reduce HIV in PNG.
